Tyke Burgundy, 2016-2017 (Blyth Brussels Minor Hockey)

The Burgundy Crusaders finished the schedule with a very entertaining 2-1 win over the Central Perth squad. End to end action and spectacular goaltending by both goalies was the recipe for today's game. Two evenly matched teams slugging it out. Everett the Blyth Brawler Cherrey started the scoring with an end to end rush snapping a blazer wrist shot over the goalies pad. Justin Case Fleet bounced one off a defender to post a 2-0 lead. The darned ol' cold and flu bug reared its ugly head once again for the Tyke Burgundy Crusaders. With only 8 skaters and 2 of those 8 sick, but good "enough " to play, the Crusaders took to the ice in Mount Forest against the power house Rams. The kids battled hard, keeping it close to a 2-1 score half way through the game. But eventually the kids got tired out, double and triple shifting, trying to do what they could to keep it close. Back on the 18th of February the cold and flu bug was running rampant on the Tyke Crusaders. They battled all game, coughing and hacking, doing what they could but came out with a 5-1 loss to the Zurich Thunder. Everett Happy Gilmore Cherrey scored the only goal of the game for the Crusaders early on with a beautiful deke on a break away going "Bar Down". Possibly could be the goal of the year. Rowdy Rowdy Hayden Piper was solid in net keeping the score respectable.

On Saturday the Crusader Kids continued with their winning ways in Zurich. Will The continued steady play of Justin Case Fleet lead the way offensively notching 3 more goals. Along with Fleet's effort Payton Orr Piper scored her first goal of the year. Good for you Payton. Your hard work and excellent positional play has finally paid off!!! Will the Thrill Nesbit once again brought his lunch pail and hard hat to the game. Showing that hard work, constant checking, and a positive team first mentality is just another day at the office for him. A true leader.

The busy weekend that the Tyke Burgundy Crusaders had was WELL worth it. After Friday nights practice it was GAME TIME!!!! Saturday morning the kids travelled down County Road 25 for a battle against Elma Logan. The game was swift, with end to end action. The game ended in a 2-2 tie. Both goals were scored by the lethal Wesley Pipes Marks. A solid outing in goal by Mad Dog Maddie Hickling preserved the 2-2 tie. Early Sunday morning the parents and kids of the Tyke Burgundy Crusaders battled through "not so nice" road conditions on the way to Arthur to partake in their Tournament.
