A game against our buddies...
Sunday night the Midget LL Crusaders teams came together for their last game of regular season, and it was only fitting to have it against each other. Black vs Burgandy.
The last regular season game for both these teams went out with a bang...against each other. I cannot speak for the Burgandy team but I can say without a doubt that this was our lowest game this season of penalty minutes. A total of 4 to be exact. Like a good game of Canadian hockey these teams played for the fun of the sport.
Our team, Burgandy, started off the scoring in the first period with Carson Richmond picking up a pass from Nolan Johnston who than found an open spot in the net. With Jarron Thomson in net, these open spots are not easy to find. Four minutes later roles were reversed with Nolan scoring a goal after passes from Carson and Jacob Roth.
Second period was a repeat with 2 more goals. Logan Finlayson picked up a pass from Nick McArter on defense and snuck it into the corner of the mesh. After a line change and another minute of play, Nolan and Jacob repeated their efforts and passed the puck to Carson who scored his second goal of the game.
After a break and time for ice flooding, the boys came out with a bang to score 4 goals in this period alone. Honours of goal scoring start with Connor Bridge getting the point after a pass from Avery McArter. A little over 3 minutes later Drew Van Wyk picked up a pass from goalie Trevor DeCorte who skated to the other end produced our 6th point of the game. Exactly seven minutes, after this excitement, Avery switched roles and took a pass from Connor giving him a goal on his statistics sheet. Hardly enough time to drop the puck and skate, 25 seconds later, Carson ended the game with goal number 8 and another recognition of a pass from Jacob. Hat trick for Carson!!! He seems to play better when their is "female" company on the stands ;).
The Burgandy team played hard as well, with their goals scored by Craig Rhynard, Jared Shearer. Special mention to Franklin Marshall who gave his time in assists. It was nice to watch the team work these linemates produce. Special mention should go out to Jarron Thomson, their goalie, who guarded his net with a lot of force and skill. He stopped many shots and kept the Black team on their toes.
We thank Burgandy for a game well played and the fun of buddies chatting afterwards. No matter the outcome.
Sam McArter was out in full force again as he cheered on his favourite goalie, Trevor. Sam's enthusiasm and dedication to this team as a spectator, warms my heart and I am proud to call him a friend. We all look forward to his horn honking and cheering as our playoff season begins.
