Mitchell Tournament...Game #4
The Crusaders fueled up at the Blyth Inn after a great game in Monkton in order to travel to Mitchell for their fourth match.
After playing teams from towns we never meet, we went to Mitchell for game #4 of the tournament to play the Goderich Sailors. All season we have been playing hard against this competitor and this game was no different.
We kept the scoreboard empty on our side until the second period when Brett McCutcheon took a nice pass from Connor Dale who found the top shelf and placed that puck to the back of the net. Not only was this a great goal, but we were playing shorthanded. Proving that four players can outwit and outplay five. Not because the shots, moves and passing wasn't there, but this would be our sole point. Everyone on this team played a great game. Defense did a great job at getting the puck away on breakaways without causing penalties, forwards worked themselves into the open for passing and of course our goalie TJ Groves was "on fire".
If team stars were picked for each game, TJ would definitely be #1. Goderich took many shots on our net and some were very tricky but only to have them stolen by the golden glove of TJ Groves. Frustrations were running high as the game progressed but TJ didn't let that get him down. He stood his ground for every shot and worked just as hard in period three as in period one. Great work!!
Next week the Crusaders are traveling to Lucknow for their Legion tournament. It will be another good round of games and team building. Brussels Legion very kindly donated our fee for these kids to play, so if you see a Legion member thank them for their continued support in our youth and sports.
