Great way to end play downs...
The boys gathered in Brussels to play Howick Hornets in what is the last game of play downs. A win is what we needed and that is exactly what the boys accomplished, with a final score of 6 to 1.
Scoring began approximately half way through the first period when Logan Finlayson took the opportunity for a breakaway and made it count. Only 5 minutes later Brett Glousher took a pass from Lucas (Teddy) Townsend for the last of the scoring in that period.
The second period was a little slower in the scoring department with only one goal for both sides, when Brett took a pass from Brock Weber and Jared Shearer. This was a great time to give the Crusaders some breathing room on the scoreboard.
Early in the last period Jared changed things up a bit and took a pass from Brett to give his team their fourth point. Play continued with a lot of passing and great stick handling. Logan took the chance on another breakaway for his second goal of the game. Just a few seconds later Jared gained his second point after a pass from Owen Weber and Logan.
The boys worked well as a team for this game and gave Jarron Thompson a bit of work. These are the games that it is obvious to see the fun and teamwork that have made this team what they are. The 2015-2016 season has been a great one. All these players have been a lot of fun to get to know and I am sure multiple friendships that will last a long time.
Can they hang up the skates...? The final verdict is not in, as points may go to a tie breaker. Whatever the outcome, we as a bench staff are very proud of these young men and look forward to seeing them throughout the summer.
