Peewee AE Split Weekend Action
Friday night saw the Peewee AE team travel to Zurich for their season opener against the Thunder. From the chatter in the room before the game it sounded like the boys were well acquainted with one another and excited to hit the ice.

Craig Raynard opened the scoring at the 6:19 mark of the 1st period on a rebound from Jared Shearer. Zurich would answer back halfway through the 2nd with two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead. Avery McArter would knot the game up less than a minute later with an unassisted tally. At the 3:25 mark Owen Andrews would score on a beauty passing play assisted by Carson Richmond and McArter. Blyth/Brussels would add one more in the 2nd  with Raynard winning the draw and Shearer popping one over the goalie's shoulder. Zurich would score with 4 seconds left in the 2nd to pull back within one.

The start of the 3rd proved to be tense with Blyth Brussel's goalie Jeremy Wilts making some outstanding saves but at the 11:06 mark in the 3rd, Zurich managed to beat him with a bullet to tie the game at 4. Blyth Brussels would answer 30 seconds later with Shearer scoring on a rebound from a boomer from Benny Newell and assisted by Nolan Johnston. Zurich would continue the seasaw battle scoring less than a minute later as well, tying it once again. At 5:01 in the 3rd the Zurich tender would attempt to pass the puck and the sneaky Andrews would intercept and score for the lead.  Wilts with the help of the defence of Josh Gibbons and Brett Stevenson managed to thwart the advances of Zurich to hold onto a 6-5 victory.

Sunday afternoon the team travelled to the old barn in Goderich to face the Sailors. It proved to be a one sided affair with the visiting crew spending an ample amount of time in the penalty box. Jeremy Wilts stood on his head on many occasions but couldn't stop them all but not for a lack of effort. Goderich was looking like they would celebrate an 8-0 shutout win until Big Ben Newell would spoil the fun with a quick wrister on a pass from Nolan Johnston with 22 seconds left on the clock. The team welcomed speedy forward Andrew VanWyk as he was unable to make the 1st game.

Next game is next Sunday in Mitchell at 7pm
