Thunder Comes to The Dog Pound
The Zurich Thunder came to Blyth and wow do they have some big kids. The game was filled with big hits and solid goaltending at both ends of the ice.

The Dogs were able to strike first with Arden Coultes putting one by Zurich’s goalie in the first couple of minutes of the first; some discussion took place as to whether it was a shot on net or a pass that missed the mark. Arden says it was a shot for the record. Robbie Gordon with help from Dustin Pennington and Ryan Nesbitt got the second goal of the game for Blyth. The Dogs had two penalties in the first with Dustin Pennington and Arden each taking turns in the sin bin. A screened shot from the point went by Blyth’s net minder Dalton Carey to get Zurich on the board with a power play goal. The first period ended with Blyth up 2 to 1.

The second period was filled with great hits that would make Don Cherry proud. Both Blyth and Zurich had two players each take turns in the sin bin. Midway through the second period Wyatt Carey was able to score with a slap shot from the point, I know he finally hit the net.

The third period was similar to the second with lots of big hits. The Dogs kept the pressure on, with more than a few close goals, but close doesn't count. Blyth took another couple of penalties.  Zurich, though, was starting to show their frustration as they had three penalties, at one point giving Blyth a two man advantage, unfortunately they could not seem to buy a goal. At the final buzzer Blyth was up 3 to 1.

Thanks go out to Susan Carey who made her debut as the Team Trainer and did not have any issues with running the defensive door, although there was at least one doubter prior to the game.

The Bantam's next game is tonight (October 25th) in Blyth with Drayton coming to town for a 7:30 pm puck drop. Come out and cheer the Dogs on.
