Game 6 - Milverton visits Blyth
We were flying high after back to back victories.  Confidence was at its peak and we were eager to play another team.  This time our new rivals from Milverton wanted a confrontation in our barn on February 2nd.  We were eager to oblige.

This Milverton team is full of older and bigger players, but we were not intimidated and held them at bay for the first half of the game.  We had stellar defensive efforts from Reece, Connor, Tanner and Kelden.  It was nice to see Kelden back in our line-up.  These four put of a great defensive umbrella in our end, keeping all shots from the perimeter.  During the Milverton barage our goalies, Luke and Connor made save after save to keep the contest tied at 0 to 0.

The big and fast skating team eventually wore us down.  They took advantage of our tired players and potted 3 quick goals to go ahead 3 to 0.  Milverton took advantage of this shift in momentum and sent out another strong line.  This line sent another 2 past our exhausted goalie to take a 5 to 0 lead.

You've heard of a second wind.  Well, our team grabbed a second wind after those last two goals and rose to the challenge before them.  Michaela fought hard to win the draw back to Tanner on defense.  He sent a lead pass to Zac on the wing, Zac skated hard to their blue line and fed a pass to Clarissa on the far boards.  Clarissa made two nice moves and drew 3 Milverton players to her.  This left a wide open Michaela in front of their net.  I was hoping to myself that Clarissa saw Michaela in front of the net.  She did and slipped a pass between the defenders skates right onto Michaela's stick.  Being no stranger to goal scoring, a confident Michaela calmly sent her shot past the goalie into the corner of the net.  Wow -- we were on the comeback trail.

The next two shifts saw end to end action with no goals for either team.  But the following shift saw our sniper - Tanner out on the ice with Snowden, Luke, Kyle and Kelden.  Milverton realized we had our sniper out and put a player on him to impede his ability to score.  Seeing this Snowden took full advantage.  Beginning from our end Luke grabbed the puck from behind our net and sent a quick pass to Kyle on the half boards.  A Milverton player attacked Kyle immediately but Kyle simply side stepped her and sent a clean breakaway pass to Snowden.  Racing from our blue line to the other end Snowden could simply not be caught.  This speed seemed to be too much for the Milverton goalie to react to.  Snowden's shot rocketed past the poor goalie before he could react, rang off the inside of the post and went to the back of the net.  We were now only down by 3 and making a game of it.

We only had two shifts left to get 3 goals and were determined to do it.  Milverton had other ideas however,  theyt took advantage of a turnover and deposited their final goal into our net.  We were down by 4 and needed a miracle.  Unfortuantely this did not happen.  The team did not quit or take a slow stride the entire game.  We were just outplayed by an older and bigger team.

Another great game team -- I am very proud of all of you and I know your parents (fans) are too.

As always you need to remember:
Skate with your head        UP
Skate with your knees    BENT
That is  MY  puck
and something else that escapes me right at the moment.

Coach Rob
