Clinton Optimists Bantam Tournament
The Howson Mills Bantam Rep team competed in the Clinton Optimist tournament last weekend, but were not able to get to the championship game.

The Crusaders took on the Goderich Sailors in the first game of the tournament.  The Crusaders came out skating hard and were staked to a 1-0 lead on a great solo rush from Ryan Jacklin.  Jacklin picked the puck up in his own zone and skated the end of the ice and took a shot.  The Goderich goalie was able to make a save, but left a rebound that Jacklin was able to pick up. Jacklin went around the net and was able to tuck the puck in the corner before the goalie could slide across.
The lead stood up until a minute left in the third period when miscommunication between the goaltender and defence allowed a Sailor skater to walk in and score.

The Sailors took a penalty with 30 seconds to go in the game, and the Crusaders buzzed the Sailor zone, but were unable to score.  The power play extended in to overtime, but a needless penalty took away the Crusader momentum, and cut short the power play.

Both teams were playing evenly when the Crusaders took a penalty.  On the ensuing power play a Sailor player skated the length of the ice and put a shot off the post and in to the net resulting in a 2-1 loss for the Crusaders.

In the second game of the tournament the Crusaders came out lifeless against North Middlesex.

The teams played a back and forth game until half way through the first period, when a North Middlesex player was allowed to skate the length of the ice and score on a hard shot.

Bailey Bos was able to tie the game at one with an unassisted goal, and the first period ended in a tie.

In the second period the Crusaders seemed to be out of sync with one another, leading to a give away which led to a North Middlesex goal.

North Middlesex was up 3-1 when a hard working Cole Zwep scored with help from Ben Jacklin. The Crusaders attempted to get the equalizer, but ran out of time.

Goalie Max Newson kept the Crusaders in the game with some big saves, otherwise the score could have been much higher.
