Battle to the End
Blyth-Brussels Atom Girls hosted the TCDMHA Rebels on Sunday, December 19, 2010 in Brussels. The team was anticipating an evenly matched game as both teams were sitting with a 5 win and 2 loss record.
The game proved to be a back and forth battle with pressure on both netminders. The first goal was scored by the visiting squad at 14:32, which was pushed past the line in a rebound shot, while goalie Julia Beaven was trying to trap the puck.
In the second period, centreman Sarah Mitchell carried the puck to net the first and only goal for the team. The girls continued a strong attack against the visiting team throughout the third period. Just as it seemed the game would be ending in a tie, a face-off in their end would be the end for the game. With 4.2 sec remaining on the clock, a rebound shot loose in front of the net was tapped in and crossed the goal line to give the TCDMHA Rebels the win.
The coaching staff was pleased by all the girls effort and look forward to the Holiday Tournament in Milverton on December 27 & 28.
