Atom Girls End Season with 7-4-5 Record
The Blyth-Brussels Atom girls team have finished up their WOAA league season this past weekend with a 7 win, 4 loss, and 5 tie record.

On January 23, the team hosted the Markdale Shooting Stars in Brussels.  The girls played hard, but were unable to get a goal.  Markdale's captain Megan Wilton scored 4 of the 5 goals for the visiting team.

Saturday, January 29, the girls hosted Saugeen Shores in Blyth.  The girls had played Saugeen early in the season with a 2-2 tie result.  So the team was keen for a win.  The first 2 periods showed a lot of equal end play and many shots on Saugeen's net were shut down.  Both teams switched netminders mid way in the second period.  Finally in the third period the team executed a text book play.  Defenseman, Alexandra (Bobbie) Martin cleared the puck from our end to winger Morgan Willie who passed it to centreman Sarah Strome, who went in for the shot on net.  Yes!!!  The lone goal of the game on the Home team board!  Great job by both goalies Julia Beaven and Clarissa Gordon!!!

For the final game of league play the girls travelled to Ayton on Sunday, January 30.  The team knew they would have to work hard as they were short 3 players.  The first period remained scoreless with some close calls at the net on both sides.  In the second period, Blyth-Brussels recorded the first goal on a one timer from the corner by Brookelyn Johnston feed to Alicia Ireland in front of the net!  Great job girls!  But the lead wouldn't prove to hold for long when Normanby tied things up five minutes later.  The final score remained tied at one a piece!

The girls are travelling to Alymer this weekend for the BADGA tournament.  Good luck girls, play hard!  The team will then be starting OWHA playdowns when they return from the tournament.
