Kincardine Silver Stick Tournament – Day 2
The Blyth Peewees traveled to Kincardine for their third game of the tournament on December 30, 2008 to play New Hamburg.



Blyth vs. New Hamburg – Game 3
Blyth opened the scoring with 6:53 left in the first with a shot by Matt VanWyk, assists went to Braydon Whitfield and Mike VanWyk. Dustin Pennington scored Blyth’s second goal of the period on a pass from Arden Coultes that originated from Spencer Stevenson. With 3:22 left in the first period New Hamburg slipped one by Blyth’s goaltender, Dalton Carey. The second period belonged to the netminders as both teams were held off the score board. With 11:36 left in the third, Connor Rodger passed to Arden who then passed to Spence who bungled the twine to put Blyth up 3 to 1. With 10:44 left in the third Mike scored, assists went to Spence and Connor. The final score was Blyth 4 – New Hamburg 1. As Blyth went undefeated in the round robin play we moved on to face Shelburne in the semi-finals.

Blyth vs. Shelburne – Semi Final Game
The first period almost went scoreless, but with 0:17 left Shelburne snuck one by Blyth’s goaltender, Dalton Carey. The second period started on a positive note for Blyth with Braydon Whitfield scoring on a pass from Spencer Stevenson. With 5:49 left in the first Shelburne snuck their second goal of the game into Blyth’s net. The third period started out with Shelburne getting their third goal of the game with 13:39 left. With 13:08 left in the third Arden Coultes scored on an assist from Spence and Dustin Pennington. With 5:15 left Mike VanWyk stepped up and tied the game at 3 a piece. Shelburne scored again at 4:47 to take the lead 4 to 3. A time out was called by Blyth with 1:29 left to give the boys a pep talk. With a minute left Blyth pulled their goalie to go with an extra attacker. With 0:41 left Ryan Nesbitt tied the game at 4 each. Blyth would just not quit and their efforts were rewarded with 0:14 left as Matt VanWyk scored the winning goal with assists going to his brother Mike and Wyatt Carey. It looks like the pep talk worked. A strong performance by all contributed to this win.

Blyth won the game 5 to 4. On to the finals we go.
