Bantam C Girls Take Gold at Silverstick
BANTAM C GIRLS TAKE HOME SILVERSTICK GOLD !!!
The Bantam C girls spent an exciting weekend playing some fantastic and thrilling hockey at the Silverstick Tournament hosted by Saugeen Shores.
We started off with a game Friday vs. Owen sound, winning 4-2 in a well played game. The second game vs. Mitchell was a tough contest, losing 4-2. We needed a win to make the semi-finals on Sunday. The third game was on Saturday vs. Mt. Forest. The girls knew they needed a solid effort to move on and came up with a great effort, winning 2-1.
Sunday at 9:15 AM we were scheduled to play South Bruce in the semi-finals. With confidence at an all time high we took to the ice. Playing very well, we got off to a 1 goal lead. Holding this until late into the third, when South Bruce tied it up. Needing a 10 min OT, which solved nothing. This pushed us into a nail biting 3 player shootout. both teams had great chances but the goalies slammed the door. On player 4, shooting at the same time we watched our goalie Clarissa make a great save and looked down the ice to see the ref point at their net. Jordyn had snapped a shot past their goalie to win the game for us.
This meant we were going to the finals vs. Mitchell --- our new rivals. Like two heavy weight fighters, jabs were sent both ways, with great defence the score remained tied after 3 solid periods of play.
Going to OT for a second game in a row.
We sell you the whole seat, but you only need the edge.
The teams traded chances until the 7 minute mark. Faith grabbed the puck and took it over the Mitchell blue line. Cutting across the zone until she reached the top of the face-off circle. Leaning into a wrist shot, she sent a lazer over the goalie's glove.
OUR FANS, PLAYERS AND COACHES ERUPTED ---- WE WON INTERNATIONAL SILVERSTICK !!!!!
This determined and fun loving group had played 5 tremendous hockey games and deserved this victory.
A very big thank you goes to the Tournament organizers, the parents who support this team all year long and the coaching staff --- whose positive attitude and support ensure the girls learn, succeed and most of all have LOTS OF FUN !!!
Congratulations girls you have done yourselves proud.
As you can tell I am one very proud coach and parent.
