Midgets Win Game One
The Blyth Midget Rep won game one of the best of five series against Ripley with a 4-3 OT win on Monday, January 19th.
Blyth opened the scoring with a goal from Matt Stevenson, assisted by Dan Dery and Michael McDowell. Halfway through the second period Ripley answered to tie it at 1 heading into the third period. With Blyth in the box to start the third, Ripley scored 2 goals less than 45 seconds apart, to take the lead 3-1 with 12 minutes left.
After a timeout Blyth came back to tie the game with less than seven minutes to go with goals from Dallas Pennington and Dan Dery. Picking up assists were Austin Sjaarda, Tyler Black and Adam Cronin. The last five minutes seen end to end action with both goalies making huge saves at both ends of the rink. Neither team was able to score in regulation time, sending this game into a 10 minute sudden death overtime.
With just under two minutes into the extra frame, on a powerplay, Matt Popp scored the OT winner with a blast from the point winning the game for the Bulldogs. Earning assists on the goal were Dan Dery and Adam Cronin.
