Peewee Girls Win Milverton Holiday Challenge
The Blyth-Brussels Peewee girls traveled to Milverton on December 29th and 30th.  It would be the first extended test against "C" teams.

The team opened with a 6-2 win against the tournament hosts.  Player of the game went to Lexi Smith who collected 2 goals and an assist.  Taylor Higgins also netted a pair of goals, with singles going to Delayna Smith and Mackenzie Nesbitt.

Next up was the Waterloo Ravens.  The team jumped out quickly and built a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes.  Another was added late in the second period to round out the scoring.  Lexi Smith netted a pair of goals with singles going to Nesbitt and Jordyn Sholdice.  For the last half of the game Waterloo would get several chances to score and applied pressure to get on the board.  Every time they were turned away by the player of the game, goaltender Lindsay Shiell.

The final round robin game was against the Grand River Mustangs.  Again, the first period was a good one, with the team grabbing a 3-0 lead.  Grand River would have the edge in goals during the second period by a 2-1 margin.  There was no further scoring resulting in a 4-2 victory.  Goal scorers were Taylor Higgins, Ashley Higgins, Delayna Smith and Lexi Smith.  The game was a spirited contest with some physical play and the team captain rose to the occasion, and as a result, Jordyn Sholdice was the player of the game.  She also set up 2 early goals to set the tone.

The finals were a rematch with Waterloo.  This time the Ravens were ready with a different game plan.  From the opening, they applied considerable pressure and kept the puck in the Blyth-Brussels end of the ice for long periods of time.  The defence pairings of Kaitlyn Michie and Autumn Wightman, as well as, Mackenzie McGavin and Leanne Plunkett, showed tremendous bend but not break resolve.  After a scoreless first period the team settled down and the second saw chances to score at both ends.  The end of the third period saw the team get into penalty trouble.  They managed to kill them off and the score was still 0-0 at the end of regulation.

An overtime period of 5 minutes was required and was played 3 on 3.  Late in the period Kaitlyn Michie grabbed the loose puck and passed it ahead to Lexi Smith.  Smith was able to get past two defenders and provided a 2 on 1 chance from the red line in on goal.  In front of the goal she feathered a nice pass to the middle of the ice, where Sholdice made no mistake by blasting the puck into the top of the net.  Final score 1-0.  It was a great team effort and goalie Lindsay Shiell played solid again with her second shut out of the tournament.  The player of the game went to Jordyn Sholdice.
