Peewee Girls Win First
The Blyth-Brussels Peewee girls opened their season in Blyth on Saturday against Howick-Wallace.

The home team got off to a slow start allowing a goal one minute into the game as the puck slid through several player's feet and by a surprised Lindsay Shiell.  Jordyn Sholdice replied for Blyth-Brussels a few minutes later.  In the final minute of the first Mackenzie Nesbitt fired a shot home to put Blyth-Brussels into the lead for good.  That momentum carried into the second as they would score four more.

The eventual game winner was scored by Delayna Smith.  Smith broke in alone and went around the goalie, who managed to trip her up on the way by, but Smith was still able to shoot the puck into the open net.  Taylor Higgins also scored a single in the period and Lexi Smith added the other two.  Howick-Wallace scored to close out the second period of play.

After a ten minute intermission, last year's leading scorer for the atom girls team, Ashley Higgins, was determined to make her mark on the game sheet.  She did just that, opening the third with a natural hat trick.  Nesbitt would close out the scoring with her second of the game to make it a 10-2 triumph.

This team is small in numbers with only ten skaters and as a result everyone's contribution is important.  All six forwards scored goals in this first game.  The defense provided by Mackenzie McGavin, Leanne Plunkett, Kaitlyn Michie and Autumn Wightman was very strong and kept the puck in the opposing end for long periods of time.

Coach Chris Michie was pleased at the teamwork and passing skills in this first game.   The next game is against Lucknow on Sunday, November 2nd at 5:30 pm in Brussels.
