BANTAMS WIN KINCARDINE SILVER STICK
Bantam team wins Silver Stick final in double overtime.
It was a sit on the edge of your seat, chew your nails, exciting and exhausting final game against West Grey at the Silver Stick final this past week in Kincardine. After 3 periods of a tough fought battle, the Blyth Brussels Bantams found themselves tied 3 to 3. Both teams were scoreless after a 5 minute sudden victory of 4 on 4 play, and a second overtime battle was required to declare the winner. This was decided early in the 3 on 3 battle when Blyth Brussels slipped one past the West Grey goalie to decidedly walk away with the Silver Stick trophy, and advance to the International Silver Stick tournament January 20-22 in Forest Ontario.
The path to the final game was a series of well played games by the entire team. Their first opponent was West Grey where the team fell short in a 3 to 2 loss. The team bounced back in their second game with a decisive win over Wingham, with a final score of 4 to 1. Game three was an early morning battle with Minto where the BBMHA Bantams played strong defense and won with a final score of 2 to 0. This win secured them a spot in the semi-final, but the team would need to wait until late in the afternoon to learn that their opponent for the Semi would be their rival team, The Wingham Ironmen. Blyth Brussels have faced Wingham five times leading up to this game and Wingham had won three times in the past. The BBMHA team stepped up, grinded, and played like champions, and challenged Wingham on every shift, and at the final buzzer the score was 2 to 1 in favor on the boys from Blyth Brussels. The final win over West Grey in the final game sealed the deal.
