A True Nail Biter....
Game 3 of our round robin playoffs was a match in Blyth against Lucknow Sepoys.  To say it was a nail biter, edge of your seat game is an understatement.  Both teams wanted to win and equal skill was evident.
To start things off, we had a full bench, with 11 skaters and of course our goalie Jarron Thompson.   We played with rotating forwards and 4 defense.  I am always proud of how the boys keep their lines straight and ensure that everyone has equal ice time.

Scoring started in the first period with Crusaders Jeff Gordon putting the puck just behind the goal line.   He took the pass from Logan Finlayson.  This gave the team some breathing room.  It wouldn't last long as approx. 7 mins later the Lucknow Sepoys put their mark on the scoreboard.  This took the game back to an even playing field...or ice surface in this case.  Lucknow continued their trend with a shorthanded goal over Jarron's stick side in the early part of the second period.  This would be the only point put on the board at this time.
After the ice was flooded and both teams had a some time to rest, the game of hockey came out with a lot of energy and skill.  Just 4 minutes into this last period, Drew VanWyk, on one of his many breakaways, buried the puck to the back of the net putting us back to a tied match.  This is when the game continued to be interesting, as this would be the only goal for that period by either team.  It is now the end of the 3rd period, it is a playoff game and we must play 10 minutes of sudden victory.  Doesn't this sound nerve wrecking!!
Every shot on net was significant, every penalty minute was important and all passing was part of the final game.  It took 8 minutes and 41 seconds of hockey for Jared Shearer to finally get one past the Lucknow goalie.  Logan and Brett Glousher were along side him to ensure he got his chance.  This has put Jared back on the scoring side of hockey.  Early in the season he was getting a goal a game...than his mom washed some of his equipment.  The sweat of luck must be back!!!
Both teams need to be proud of the way they played.  Many penalties, whether true or not kept both teams having to think fast and out of the box.  Hockey is a great way to learn that we must move forward when things are out of our control.  Take the high road and keep working hard.
I am again super proud of the this team and their ability to work together.  The fun and friendship generated by this sport is something they will never forget.
We are in Brussels on Wednesday for practise and travel to Howick on Thursday night for another playoff game.  Spirits are high and we look forward to keeping everyone up to date.
