Blyth Brussels Peewee Girls Team 2 played in the WOAA year end playoff tournament this past weekend. First game was against Durham Friday night. Blyth Brussels scored first, part way through the opening frame with a goal from Sarah Strome tapping her own rebound past the netminder. With no scoring in the 2nd Durham answered back in the 3rd with a goal to tie and again later in the 3rd to take the lead. Final score 2-1 Durham.

Game 2 was Saturday afternoon against Georgian Shores. The Blyth Brussels girls played very well scoring first at 9:22 of the second period and maintaining the lead for most of the game. Brooklyn Johnston fired a one timer past the Georgian goalie on a nice pass from Sydney Wightman along the boards. The girls had lots of scoring chances but were unable to beat the Georgian Shores goalie again. With 47 seconds left in the 3rd, Georgian Shores put a puck past Julia Beaven to tie the game. Final score Blyth Brussels 1, Georgian Shores 1.

Sunday’s game was fast paced with both teams exchanging scoring chances. Kailey Wheeler of Blyth Brussels drew the first goal with a wrist shot high over the goalie's shoulder and into the net at 5:50 of the first unassisted. At 9:54 of the third the Blyth Brussels offence erupted for 3 goals in 1:01 min. Kailey Wheeler potted her second of the game assisted by Mackenzie Tiffin and Sarah Strome and again 14 seconds later for the hat trick assisted by Strome. At 8:55 Sydney Wightman buried the puck past the Grey Highlands goalie on a nice feed from Brooklyn Johnston behind the net. Blyth Brussels never looked back as Grey Highlands added a single marker at 8:24 but could not recover from the onslaught of goals. Julia Beaven made a number of great saves throughout the game to keep the Grey Highlands score at 1. Defense core of Alexander Martin, Sarah Mitchell, Morgan Howson and Taylor McKee played solid keeping the defence zone clear and offence continued to pepper the Grey Highlands goalie until the final buzzer. Final score Blyth Brussels 4, Grey Highlands 1, and White Consolation Champs.
