Peewee AE's Earn Bronze in Strathroy Tourney
The Blyth Brussels Peewee AE team travelled to Strathroy this past weekend and brought home a bronze medal for their efforts.

Friday afternoon the boys travelled to Strathroy playing the hosts in the opening game accompanied by local leaguers Damon Allen and goalie, Jarron Thompson. The boys, outsized but not outclassed, hung tough with the bigger Strathroy squad but came up short in the end losing 2-0.

The next game was Friday evening playing Hespeler with team regular netminder Jeremy Wilts playing out to give his teammates some extra legs. With Hespeler jumping out to an early 2-0 lead Craig Raynard would put one by the goalie assisted by Nolan Johnston. Hespeler would continue their onslaught scoring one more in the 1st followed by a scoreless 2nd, with Thompson making some nice saves. As the boys run out of steam in the 3rd Hespeler would add two more for the 5-1 win.

Up and at 'em bright and early Saturday morning, the team would take on the Pelham Panthers with Jeremy Wilts between the pipes. With 2:07 left in the 1st Craig Raynard would notch an unassisted tally to take a 1-0 lead. The boys would hold steady and keep Pelham off the scoresheet for the remainder of the game and pull out a 1-0 victory.

Game#4 of the round robin would be Saturday afternoon against Petrolia with Dylan McNeil and Wyatt Machan showing up with some fresh legs to help a battered and bruised team. Avery McArter would open the scoring in the 1st on a pass from Raynard. 4 minutes later Carson Richmond would score unassisted to go up 2-0. The 2nd period would be scoreless. A little over 2 minutes into the 3rd Wyatt Machan would score, assisted by Richmond and Drew Van Wyk. A minute later Nolan Johnston would add another assisted by Raynard and Ben Newell. The team would go on to win 4-0.

With 2 wins and 2 losses Blyth Brussels would qualify for the bronze medal game against Pelham once again Sunday morning. This game, much like the 1st contest with two evenly matched teams, remained scoreless until the 3rd period when Josh Gibbons would bulge the twine with a wrister from the point. Assists going to Van Wyk and Richmond. With Pelham putting the pressure on to tie, McArter would put one in the net to put the icing on the cake assisted by Benny Newell and Dylan McNeil. Blyth Brussels would defeat their opponents 2-0 for the bronze medal.

Parents were proud of their team as the kids battled, bruised and battered against  teams from bigger centers proving their never give up attitude. Congratulations to the boys and coaches Darren Richmond, Glen Raynard, Rick Van Wyk and Tracey Shearer.

Next game is in Blyth Wednesday night at 7:30 vs. Goderich.
