SilverStick Champs!
What a way to end the year! A superbly played game by everyone. We dominated the 5 on 5 play and limited Wainfleet's chances. The only blemish coming 5 minutes into the game after controlling the puck in their end for so long, a bouncing puck gave them a break-away and a 1-0 lead. With the faceoff at center ice, Dustin Pennington picked up a turnover at their blue line and raced in alone to tie it up!
The boys settled down and dominated the puck for the rest of the first 2 periods but couldn't score again. We took the break in the dressing room to re-adjust some things.
The boys started the 3rd with lots of energy and kept the puck on the Wainfleet half of the ice, hammering everything in a black and orange jersey. The turning point came at the 7 minute mark when Arden Coultes flattened a Wainfleet player at the blue line and fed Pennington, who took the shot for Josh Van Soest to tip in! The boys kept working hard and knew not to let up.
That hard work paid off again during a scramble in the crease when Trent Michie got the puck to Quintin Sjaarda who pushed it to the back of the net with 2:52 left! The boys could feel the banner now but knew there was still some hard work left! Everybody did their job for the last 3 minutes and Matt McNichol didn't even have to make a save!
The buzzer went and we had a banner to bring home! Off to the International SilverStick in Forest, January 27-29.
