Atom Reps Have a Strong Start to the Season

The Blyth Brussels Atom Reps have kept the excitement up for the fans as the season begins....

October 15th brought the start of the Atom Rep season as they met up with the Lucknow Sepoys.  Halfway through the first period Ethan Coultes started the scoring.  Colin Howson then popped in a quick goal at the start of the 2nd with help from Ethan Scrimgeour.  Alex Coultes then scored with the assistance Bailey Bos and Jacob Gulutzen.  Mitch McNichol found the back of the net in the 3rd with Bos and Gulutzen picking up the assists.  The team continued to pass the puck around as Bos and Ted Jacklin set up Gulutzen for one more to finish the game with Spencer Lazarevich getting his first shut-out of the season, for a final of  5-0.

October 22 brought the Ripley Wolves to town.  Ethan Scrimgeour started the scoring with Colin Howson and Ethan Coultes assisting. Bailey Bos netted 1 more before the end of the first. Bos, with the help of Alex Coultes scored 2 more to get the hat trick and then Ethan Coultes scored to finish the 2nd.  Mitch McNichol started the scoring in the 3rd; Bos wasn’t finished with the Wolves just yet, he scored 2 more with an assist going to Gultzen, giving Bos 5 goals in the 9-1 victory over the Wolves.

October 28th, the team took to the road to see the Teeswater Otters.  Michaela Rodger let one rip from the blue line scoring her first of the season.  Jacob Roth and Scrimgeour combined for one in the 2nd followed by both Alex and Ethan Coultes assisting on a goal by Bos.   Colin Howson netted one from Scrimgeour, with Scrimgeour then scoring one himself on a pass from Roth.  Mitch McNichol added one more from Alex Coultes as the Reps skate to a 6-0 win giving Spencer his 2nd shut-out.

The team then travelled on Saturday afternoon to meet the Drayton Defenders.  This was a fast and exciting game with end to end action as both goalies stood tall .  It wasn’t until late in the 2nd when Drayton snuck one past Lazarevich. Then, in the dying seconds of the period Bailey Bos tied the game on a sweet pass from Roth.  With both teams battling back and forth, it could have been anyone’s game.  With less than 4 minutes left in the game Drayton Defenders netted one more.  The team battled to the end but couldn’t get another one past Drayton’s net minder, handing the team their first loss, 2-1.

November 4th took the team onward to meet the Seaforth Stars.  Ethan Scrimgeour started the scoring right away, and then it all changed.  Seaforth started lighting up the score board and left the Reps behind 4-1 after the 1st. Late in the 2nd Bailey Bos scored one from the pass of Roth still leaving us behind by  2.  There must have been some words of wisdom from the bench before the 3rd got started, because the team rallied together and came out flying, scoring 5.  Bos added 2 for the hat trick; Howson, Roth and Gulutzen each netting one with Bos, Howson, and Scrimgeour getting assists.  Seaforth tried to come back by putting one more through the pipes, but it wasn’t enough as the Atoms held on to the come from behind with a 7-5 win.

The next morning, the Elma Logan Wildcats came to town. Colin Howson started things off finding the back of the net early.  This was another fast game seeing end to end action.  Both goalies kept it tight between the pipes as there was no more scoring until the start of the 3rd.  Alex Coultes sniped one past the Wildcats goalie on the pass from Bos.  Then in the last 2 minutes of the game, the Wildcats started scratching and found themselves with 2 unanswered goals to finish the game in a 2-2 tie.

Monday November 7th, the team was off to Ripley for another crack at the Wolves.  Jacob Roth sent one upstairs to start the scoring from Scrimgeour, then Bos and Alex Coultes teamed up making it 2-0.  In the 2nd Bos scored 2 more for the hat trick with Griffin MacDonald assisting on both and Ted Jacklin on one.  A pass from MacDonald sent Colin Howson in, turning the Wolves goalie inside out for one more. Ethan Coultes sent one up to Roth who found Scrimgeour sitting on the door step putting another past the Ripley goaltender for a 6-0 lead.  Jacob Roth added one more from Scrimgeour and Howson.  The Wolves did manage to get one past Lazarevich late in the game, but wasn’t enough as the team skated away with a 7-1 victory.

On the eve of Remembrance Day the team travelled to Lucknow to take on the Sepoy’s.  The Reps came out firing on all cylinders.  Griffin Macdonald scored first followed by one from Scrimgeour assisted by Howson.  In the 2nd, Howson scored from Scrimgeour and Ethan Coultes.  Scrimgeour then tallied 2 more to get the hat trick with assists from Howson, MacDonald and Roth.  Ethan Coultes then scored on a pass from Michaela Rodgers. MacDonald then scored his 2nd of the game from Bos; Bos then added one more goal from MacDonald.  Jacob Gulutzen finished the scoring on a pass from Scrimgeour giving the  Atom Reps a 9-0 win and one more shut out for Spencer Lazarevich.

November 13th kept the team on the road travelling to Wingham. Both goalies kept the teams skating with end-to-end action and nothing clearing the pipes.  With only 1:52 left in the 3rd Ethan Scrimgeour put one past, unassisted.  The team continued to battle it out keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. Final score of 1-0 giving Lazarevich his 4th shut out.

The camaraderie of this team continues to grow as the joining of two small towns become one, all for the sake of the love of the game of hockey.
