Blyth-Brussels Bantam Girls Win First Game of Provincial Playdowns
The Blyth-Brussels Bantam girls opened up their Provincial Playdowns against the Upper Maitland Mustangs in Howick tonight and came away with a convincing 6-2 win.

There are six teams in the Southern loop who face off in a home or away game.  Blyth-Brussels will compete against Upper Maitland, St. Marys, Seaforth, South Huron and Lucknow.  At the end of the series the two teams with the most points advance to the Provincial finals in Brampton in April.  Good luck girls!  Come out and cheer the girls on this Saturday in Blyth at 11:00.

Blyth-Brussels Bantam Icedogs travelled to the Howick arena February 16 to play their first game of the Provincial playdowns.  With three minutes left in the first period Shelby Hinschberger opened up the scoring by one, timing a pass from Ashley Delapena.  A minute later Ashley Higgins scored unassisted.

In the second period the girls were on fire.  With a man advantage Ashley Higgins scored on a pass from Ashley Delapena.  Upper Maitland responded a minute later with an unassisted goal by Rachel Goetz.  Mackenzie Nesbitt fired one past the goalie unassisted.  Leanne Plunkett fired a rocket shot from the blue line to make the score 5-1.  With two minutes left in the second period Ashley Higgins rounded out her hat trick with a goal assisted by Jessica Thompson.

Upper Maitland opened up the third period with a goal by Regan Miller, assited by Rachel Goetz (and our defenseman's skate).  This would be the only goal of the third period ending the game 6-2.  Lindsay Shiell protected the Blyth-Brussels net.  Sydney Carson was in net for the Upper Maitland Mustangs.
