Game 2 of Our Home Stand
Fresh from our season and home opener victory we were keen to hit the ice again.  We welcomed the challenge from Milverton.

We did not know what to expect, but were ready to play our game.

The puck hit the ice and we were flying again. Taking control immediately we grabbed the opening face-off and rushed the Milverton goalie.  We had several good scoring opportunities early but were denied by excellent goal tending.  The first period was a fast paced affair that ended up in a 0 to 0 score.  Owen took a tripping penalty in the first period but stellar defensive play would not allow our opponents to score.

Early in the second we were in penalty trouble again when Jeremy took a tripping penalty.  The team pulled together and kept Milverton off the board. Franklin made some key saves during both penalties to keep us in the game.  An awesome display of defensive skill was put forth by both line combos of Craig and Curtis as well as the other duo of Jeff and Jeremy. The combination of CC and JJ on defense is purely coincidental.  They played extremely well.

It was scoreless up until the halfway point of the second when Milverton peppered a few shots at our goalie and stuffed in a rebound. This was the spark we needed as the next shift saw Patrick, Gavin and Cameron buzzing the Milverton net. Again we found nothing but a brick wall in our way and could not score. As Milverton regained possession of the puck they rushed down the ice past our defense and sent a rocket past Franklin to go ahead 2 to 0.  We were down, but not out.

The team did not get down on themselves for being behind, it was almost like they were waiting to go down by 2 before beginning their third period heroics.  Colton's line lead us out in the third and gained control of the puck and headed towards an unsuspecting Milverton goalie. For the next 5 minutes we sent wave after wave of attack toward their net with no reward.  Jeff and Jeremy worked well together to keep the puck deep in the Milverton end. If the other team got into our end we could always depend on Craig and Curtis to send a quick pass to our wingers and get us going in the right direction again.

It was now halfway through the third and I was getting a little nervous. The team however was quite calm and kept swarming the poor Milverton goalie.  It was at this point Owen grabbed a pass from Brett and sent a crisp pass right on the tape of Colton in front of the net. Wasting no time Colton snapped a quick shot past the goalie to reduce our deficit to 1.

The next shift saw Gavin steel the puck from Milverton deep in our zone and rush down the left wing into the Milverton end to send a pass to Patrick who sent a screamer off the post, it bounced just past Cam who was on the doorstep looking for a rebound.

We sent our Colton line again and forced the play for the next few moments.  With the puck loose in the corner Colton raced towards it and slipped a neat pass to Owen just to the side of the net. Seeing no opportunity to score himself, Owen shoveled the puck into the slot to a waiting Brett. Making no mistake, Brett fired the loose puck into the back of the net to even the score at 2.

The remainder of the game was as exciting as the opening periods.  Our defense kept the opposition under control in our zone and sent shots at the net from the point in their zone. Our forwards cleared the puck effectively from our zone and scared their goalie several times without success.  The final buzzer sounded and we found ourselves tied.

The CARDIAC KIDS had done it again.  Waiting until the start of the third and down by two until their scoring can begin.

The coaching staff is very proud of the effort level, enthusiasm and heart this team is showing each and every time out.

Way to go guys.
Now remember what the old coach says;
We skate with our knees --  BENT
We skate with our heads -- UP
