Blyth-Brussels Peewee Girls Conclude Season
The Peewee girls played in the WOAA year-end tournament over the weekend in Lucknow.  The team would take the runner-up medals in the White Division.

The team started out with a game against Mildmay, and opened the scoring in the second minute of the game with a goal by Jordyn Sholdice, with Lexi Smith assisting.  The lead was extended to 2 on a goal by Mackenzie Nesbitt, with Delayna Smith and Kaitlyn Michie collecting the helpers.  Mildmay cut into the lead in the opening seconds of the third period.  The 2 goal lead was restored with 3 minutes to go on another goal by Sholdice, with Lexi Smith and Leanne Plunkett getting the assists.  Mildmay would score a goal with 21 seconds to go, but it was too late, and the game ended with Blyth-Brussels prevailing by a 3-2 score.

The next game was against the Owen Sound Ice Hawks.  The girls opened the scoring with 2 goals in the first period.  Lexi Smith and Ashley Higgins getting the goals, and assists going to Sholdice, Nesbitt and Delayna Smith.  The Ice Hawks would get on the board early in the second period, but the girls responded with a goal of their own 26 seconds later.  Delayna Smith getting the goal, with assists going to Autumn Wightman and Ashley Higgins.  The girls sealed the game in the third with 2 more goals.  Higgins and Sholdice with the goals, and assists going to Michie, Lexi Smith and Taylor Higgins.  Final score 5-1 win.

That put the team in the Championship final against the Meaford Mustangs.  The girls really played well in their final game of the season, and applied tremendous pressure, and had numerous chances to score.  The Mustang goalie played a great game and was able to shutout the team for only the third time this season.  The Meaford Captain, Abby Sewell, was able to get free in the second period, and scored the only goal of the game in the second period.  Final score was 1-0 for Meaford.  The runner-up medallions going to the Blyth-Brussels team.

The season was a tremendous success, and was the first official season of girls hockey for the amalgamated Blyth-Brussels teams.  The Peewee girls ended with an overall record of 32 wins, 9 losses and 2 ties.  They were tournament Champions in Milverton, and Consolation winners at the Goderich Lions Young Canada Week.

The team members are:  Goalie: Lindsay Shiell. Defense: Kaitlyn Michie, Mackenzie McGavin, Leanne Plunkett and Autumn Wightman.  Forwards: Jordyn Sholdice, Lexi Smith, Taylor Higgins, Ashley Higgins, Mackenzie Nesbitt and Delayna Smith.
