Peewee Girls Improve to 2-0 in Round 1
The qualification playdowns have started for the OWHA provincial championship tournament.  The first round consists of a 3 game round robin against Lucknow, Seaforth and Goderich.

The team opened up with a 15-0 win against Lucknow in Blyth on February 7th.  Next up was a trip to Seaforth on Tuesday, February 10th against the perennial powerhouse Seaforth Stars.

The game opened with both teams applying pressure for long stretches of time, but the first period ended scoreless.  The Blyth/Brussels girls started to get a little more pressure and at the midway point of the second period, Kaitlyn Michie was able to set up a two on one break that ended with Jordyn Sholdice sending a perfect pass to Lexi Smith, who fired the puck into the top of the net.  From the face-off at centre ice Blyth/Brussels worked the puck back into Seaforth's end and Smith picked up a loose puck and attempted a pass to the middle of the ice that deflected past the Seaforth goaltender for an unassisted goal 14 seconds after the opening goal.

At the midway point of the third Delayna Smith netted an insurance marker with assists going to Sholdice and Lexi Smith.  The rest of the game the team played very good overall team defense.  The line of Ashley Higgins, Mackenzie Nesbitt and Taylor Higgins were able to consume valuable time by cycling the puck in the Seaforth zone and wearing down the Seaforth players.  When the Seaforth players were able to get loose on a break, the defense of Michie, Autumn Wightman, Mackenzie McGavin and Leanne Plunkett were there to thwart most attacks.  Our final line of defense, goaltender Lindsay Shiell, played a great game.  She made many difficult saves on screened shots and was full value for the shutout victory.  Final score was 3-0.  Great team effort.
