Peewee Girls Lose in Tournament Semi-Final
The Blyth-Brussels Peewee girls travelled to Aylmer over the weekend to play in the 10th annual B.A.D. Girls tournament.
Game 1 was against the Parkhill Jr. Stars. The game was very close and there was no scoring for the first half of the game. Parkhill opened the scoring with 2 minutes to go in the second. Delayna Smith evened the score at 1 a minute later. With four minutes to go in the game Lexi Smith got the go ahead goal. Blyth-Brussels finished with the 2-1 victory.
Game 2 was against the host B.A.D (Belmont-Aylmer, Dorchester) Blazers. The team started off quick in this contest with Taylor Higgins scoring 14 seconds into the game. The Blazers got the equalizer late in the first period. Lexi Smith scored late in the second period to regain the lead. The Blazers responded quickly to tie the game again. Blyth-Brussels pulled away in the third on goals by Jordyn Sholdice, Delayna Smith and Ashley Higgins. Final score was 5-2.
The team advanced to the Semi-Final and played Parkhill again. Lexi Smith opened the scoring on a nice goal halfway through the first. The game was fairly close checking on the small ice surface in Belmont, but Parkhill got on the board late in the second period. Parkhill scored again early in the third to take a 2-1 lead. The team kept pressing and Ashley Higgins scored a power play goal with 2 minutes to go to pull the teams even. Regulation time ended tied at 2 and the 5 minute overtime period did not provide a winner either. The game went to a 5 player shootout with the Parkhill team taking the victory.
Next up are the OWHA playdowns. The team plays a single round robin with Seaforth, Goderich and Lucknow, with the top 2 teams advancing to the next round. They host Lucknow in Blyth on Saturday, February 7th at 9:30 a.m., play at Seaforth Tuesday, February 10th at 7:30 p.m., and conclude with Goderich in Blyth on Saturday, February 14th at 12:30 p.m.
