Atom Girls Mount Valiant Effort
The Blyth Atom Girls traveled to Mount Forest this past weekend for a tournament in the C Division.  It was the team's first stretch of games against C teams similar to the ones they may meet in the upcoming provincial tournament qualification playoffs.

The team came up short in their 3 games, however they played very well and were a bounce or two away from winning 2 games.  The first game on Friday night was against Owen Sound.  The girls were a bit overwhelmed in the first 7 minutes of the game and found themselves down 2 - 0.  They managed to compose themselves and mount a comeback and were just unable to find the equalizer with the goalie pulled and were on the losing side of a 3 - 2 score.  Ashley Higgins scored both Blyth goals with assists going to Amy Boyce, Teresa Atkinson, Morgan Howson and Sydney Wightman.

The second game was against Waterloo and turned out to be Blyth's game of the year so far.  There were numerous great plays and chances to score at both ends of the ice.  The goaltending was outstanding and Lindsay Shiell kept Blyth in the game on numerous occasions.  The third period ended at a scoreless draw and the game went to a 5 minute overtime period.  The action still continued at a high pace and the Waterloo Ravens ended the game with 1:22 left in the 4th period, as they tucked in a shot inside the post and over the sprawling Blyth goalie.  The coaching staff was extremely proud of the effort and determination shown in this game and the experience gained will be very valuable.

The final game was an 8:00 am start time on Sunday against a very powerful team from Woolwich, which won their first two games by large margins.  Again Blyth found themselves down 2 - 0 early in this contest.  Midway through the second with Blyth playing short handed, Ashley Higgins stole the puck and beat several players and placed a perfect shot just inside the post to cut the margin in half.  Woolwich regained the 2 goal margin on that same powerplay.  They would add 2 more late in the third to take the game by a 5 - 1 score.
